CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team fell to No. 5 Middlebury 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 7-5 overall.
The Sagehens fell behind early as the Panthers took two of the three doubles to start off with a 2-1 lead.
The Sagehens started out with a win at No. 2 doubles as Emily Chen and Shivani Doraiswami defeated the team of Blayze and Stow 8-5. The Sagehens went on to lose the final two doubles matches
as they fell at the No. 1 doubles match as Arianna Chen and Maryann Zhao dropped their match 8-5. The Panthers ended doubles play with a win at No. 3 as Caroline Casper and Jacinta Chen fell to their opponents 8-4.
The Sagehens struggled in singles play as well against the Panthers as the sole win of the afternoon came at No. 2 singles as Zhao earned her second win of the day at No. 2 singles by the score of 6-4, 6-4.
Middlebury opened up with a win at No. 3 singles as Summer Garrison fell 6-0, 6-3 and Casper took a loss at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-1.
The Panthers clinched the match at No. 4 singles as Doraiswami fell 6-4, 6-0 in her singles match. The Panthers went on to win at No. 6 and No. 5 singles as Emily Chen fell by the scores of 6-2, 6-4 and Arianna Chen lost her match at No. 6, 6-4, 6-0.
