CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team prevailed through a tight 5-4 victory over No. 11 Amherst on Tuesday afternoon. After falling behind 2-1 in doubles, the Sagehens rallied back in the singles, securing four victories to win the match.

Season Impact: The Sagehens improve to a 4-1 record overall, with their last three victories coming against top-15 programs.

The match did not begin in the Sagehens' favor as Maryann Zhao and Emily Chen lost their no. 1 doubles match 8-3 to Avery Wagman and Anya Ivenitsky. Jacinta Chen and Shivani Doraiswami lost the no. 3 doubles match to Maddie Dewire and Camille Smukler 8-5, but Arianna Chen and Caroline Casper prevailed to a close 8-6 victory in no. 2 doubles against Vickie Ip and Kelsey Chen.

Emily Chen made quick work of her opponent, winning the no. 5 singles against Ivenitsky 6-1 and 6-2 to tie the score. Maryann Zhao also came through in the no. 2 singles with a 6-2 and 6-3 victory over Vickie Ip. Amherst's Camille Smukler edged out Caroline Casper 6-4 and 7-6 (2) in no. 1 singles, but Shivani Doraiswami prevailed with a close 7-5 and 6-2 win over Dewire in no. 4 singles. Summer Garrison's three-set thriller of Kelsey Chen proved to be the difference maker, winning the no. 3 singles match (2-6, 6-2, 6-4) to earn the victory. Jacinta Chen lost her no. 6 singles match (6-7 (7), 6-3, 10-8).
