Baseball: Sagehens Stay Hot With 12-6 Win Over Dickinson

Box Score

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team improved their win streak to five games after their 12-6 win over non-conference opponent Dickinson on Saturday morning at Alumni Field.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 12-4 overall and 5-1 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Cade Hulse who went 4-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. The Sagehens also had six players with two or more hits as Brian Knapp, Nolan McCafferty, Jeremiah Quezada, Jack Hanley and Seth Stone all tallied two base knocks on the day.

Nicholas Radich earned the win for the Sagehens as he went 5.1 innings, surrendered four runs on five hits and struck out six to improve to 4-0 this season.

Dickinson got on the board in the very first inning after an RBI single gave them an early 1-0 lead. However, the lead was quickly erased as Knapp unloaded with a grand slam in the bottom of the second for his fifth homer of the year. The Sagehens added one more in the inning as Quezada singled home McCafferty to take a 5-1 lead.

The Sagehens piled on in the fifth for their second big inning of the game where they plated six runners in the inning. RBI doubles by Stone and Quezada to go along with an RBI single by Hulse extended the lead to a commanding 11-1 advantage.

The Red Devils attempted a comeback in the sixth where they got four runs with one swing of the bat off of a grand slam of their own followed by an RBI groundout later in the inning cut the Sagehens' lead down to 11-6.

Pomona-Pitzer responded with one more run in the bottom of the seventh from a Hulse RBI single and the Sagehens bullpen of Connor Woods, Peyton Holm, Luke Layton and Trevor Walker kept the Red Devils quiet late in the game to secure the win for the Sagehens.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next face non-conference opponent Ithaca on Sunday, March 11th at 2:30 p.m.
