Box Score

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team defeated non-conference opponent Willamette 7-4 on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens finish their opening weekend with a 3-1 overall record.

The Sagehens were led by Jeremiah Quezada who continued his hot start of 2018 with a 2-4 performance including a three-run homer. Nolan McCafferty also blasted his first home run of the season with a solo shot off of the foul pole.

Freshman Seth Stone got the ball for his first collegiate start and went three innings and gave up two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts while senior Nicholas Radich relieved Stone and was lights out from the rubber going five innings of relief work with no runs and only gave up three hits for the win.

The Bearcats got on the board early against the Sagehens with two runs in the top of the second after an RBI triple and an RBI single to make it 2-0.

The Sagehens responded in their next at-bats with two home runs in the innings from a solo shot by McCafferty and a three-run bomb to dead center by Quezada to give the Sagehens a 4-2 lead.

Pomona-Pitzer added three more in the bottom of the fourth as Brian Knapp singled down the first base line with the bases loaded to plate three Sagehens and Jeremy Jess followed with a sacrifice fly that brought in Andrew Phillips to extend the lead to 7-2 after four innings of play.

The Bearcats clawed back into the game as they plated three runners in the top of the ninth but Holm was able to hold on for the save to cap off a successful opening weekend of baseball for the Sagehens.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next take on non-conference opponent Castleton on Saturday, February 17th at 2:00 p.m.
