CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier 9-0 at the Pauley Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 12-5 overall and stay perfect at 5-0 in SCIAC play this season.
The Sagehens started out with a 3-0 lead as they swept the Poets in doubles play. The Sagehens only dropped one game total in doubles as the No. 1 doubles team of Caroline Casper and Arianna Chen defeated their opponents 8-1.
Pomona-Pitzer came away with a clean sweep at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles lines as Mae Coyiuto and Maddie Gordon along with Mallory Roth and Rebecca Salaway both won their matches 8-0.
The Sagehens went on to win all six singles matches as well as Joy Kim earned a win at the No. 1 singles spot 6-4, 6-1 and Emily Chen won her match after her opponent retired after going down 0-1.
Grace Hruska won her singles match at the No. 3 singles line by the score of 6-1, 6-0 and Roth doubled her win total on the day as she also won her singles match in the No. 4 singles line 6-0, 6-0.
Pomona-Pitzer ended the day with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles as Jay Kim won at the No. 5 line 6-1, 6-0 and Maddie Gordon defeated her opponent in the No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-0.
