CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 5 ranked Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team fell to No. 9 ranked Middlebury 7-2 on Thursday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 10-4 overall and Middlebury improves to 3-2 so far this season.
The Sagehens started out behind as Middlebury jumped out to a 2-1 lead after Caroline Casper and Arianna Chen fell at the No. 2 doubles, 8-2. The Sagehens then evened up the score at 1-1 after the team of Maryann Zhao and Emily Chen earned a win at No. 1 doubles 8-4 but dropped the final doubles match at the No. 3 spot as Grace Hruska and Joy Kim lost in a hard fought 9-7 match.
In singles, the Sagehens only earned one win in the six matches as Casper went on to win her singles match in the No. 1 singles spot as she defeated her opponent 7-5, 6-3.
Middlebury went on to win the rest of the singles matches as Zhao fell in the No. 2 spot by the scores of 6-2, 7-5 and Mae Coyiuto went on to loss at the No. 3 singles spot, 6-1, 6-3.
The Sagehens went on to lose the No. 4 match with Arianna Chen falling 7-5, 6-4, Hruska fell in the No. 6 singles match 6-3, 6-4 and Kim went on to lose her match at the No. 5 spot 3-6, 6-1, 7-5.
