CLAREMONT, CA – The No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team couldn't be stopped, rolling on their way to 9-0 win over Bates College Thursday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: The Sagehens improve to 3-1 overall and stay perfect against NCAA Division III competition.
The Bates Bobcats drop to 1-1.
Doubles
The Sagehens scored 8-3 wins in both the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, Caroline Casper and Arianna Chen scored a 8-3 win over Maisie Silverman and Isabella Stone. The pair improves to 4-0 in doubles competiton this spring.
In the No. 3 match, Maryann Zhao and Maddie Gordon bested Kate Rosenthal and Lauren Hernandez.
Grace Hruska and Mae Coyiuto grabbed a win for Pomona-Pitzer in the No. 2 spot, beating Elizabeth Erbafina and Isabella Rovinski 8-5.
Singles
Casper scored a win in the No. 1 slot beating Silverman 6-1, 6-0. Zhao scored a 6-1, 6-0 win over Erbafina in the No. 2 match, and Coyiuto bested Stone 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 match.
Chen kept the Sagehens moving in the No. 4 singles match winning 6-3, 6-0 against Rovinski.
Hruska beat Rosenthal 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 spot, and Yurie Heard made it a clean sweep, taking her match against Olivia Voccola 6-1, 6-1.
Next Match: Pomona-Pitzer returns to SCIAC action tomorrow afternoon when they head east to face the Redlands Bulldogs. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m.
