Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team fell in a double header to Pacific Lutheran by the scores of 7-4 and 8-0 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: The Sagehens drop their first series of the season as they won game one but fell in games two and three to Pacific Lutheran. Pomona-Pitzer now drops to 4-3 overall on the year. Pacific Lutheran improves to 2-1.
In game one, the Sagehens were led by junior Bryce Rogan who went 2-4 with a run scored. Senior Tanner Nishioka went 1-3 with a two-run homerun.
The Lutes were led by Jacob Bockelie who went 2-4 with two homeruns and tallied five RBI.
Pacific Lutheran got the scoring started in the top of the fourth as Bockelie hit his first homerun of the game with a solo shot to center field to give the Lutes a 1-0 lead.
The Sagehens came back to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth after Rogan tripled off of the left field wall and then came around to score on a wild pitch to even the score at 1-1.
The Lutes then went on to break the game open in the top of the eighth after back to back RBI's on a single and a walk with the bases loaded and then Bockelie connected with a grandslam to cap off a six run inning for Pacific Lutheran to take a 7-3 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer came back in the bottom of the ninth after a two-run homer by Nishioka but the Sagehens came up short in game one of the double header.
Game 2
The Sagehens were led by freshman Ezra Steinberg, freshman Brian Knapp and Rogan who each had one hit in the loss.
Pacific Lutheran was led by Cole Johnson who went 4-5 with two RBI.
The Lutes got on the board first again in game two after Johnson doubled to right field to bring home Brian Johnson as Pacific Lutheran took a 1-0 lead. The Lutes doubled their lead to 2-0 in the next inning after Kyle Vanderstaay homered to left center and Pacific Lutheran led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third.
The Lutes had a big fifth inning as they plated four runners coming off of three RBI singles and a walked in runner to extend the lead to 6-0.
Pacific Lutheran added two more to their lead in the top of the eighth after a bases loaded double down the right field line pushed the lead to 8-0.
The Sagehens' bats went quiet in game two as they were shutout for the first time this season and only connected for three hits.
