CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's tennis team advanced to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship with a 9-0 win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
The Sagehens started out the match against the Regals with a 3-0 sweep of the doubles matches.
The No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Maryann Zhao and sophomore Emily Chen started out the doubles matches with a quick 8-0 win.
Senior Lea Lynn Yen and freshman Caroline Casper took their match in the No. 2 doubles by the score of 8-1 and the team of sophomore Grace Hruska and senior Marie Fleming ended the doubles with an 8-4 victory.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to win all six of the singles matches against Cal Lutheran as Casper started off with a 6-1, 6-3 win.
Zhao went on to take her match in the No. 2 singles by the score of 6-0, 6-1 and junior Shivano Doraiswami won her No. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-0.
Senior Mae Coyiuto defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 4 singles spot and freshman Arinna Chen took care of her match in the No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Pomona-Pitzer ended the day as freshman Emily Kuo won her match in the No. 6 singles by the score of 6-2, 6-0.
The top-seeded Sagehens will face off against No. 2 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the SCIAC Championship match.
