CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team fell in both games of their double header to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Occidental by the scores of 19-5 and 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Occidental got one the board early in the first inning as David DeRaad hit a three-run homer to right field to give the Tigers a 3-0 advantage to start the game.

The Sagehens scored their first run of the game after senior Simon Rosenbaum doubled down the left field line to bring home junior Tanner Nishioka in the bottom of the third to cut the lead down to 3-1.

Occidental tacked on three more in the top of the fifth as Bryan Smith hit a bases loaded double that plated two Tigers and Jared Baur hit an RBI single to right field to take a 6-1 lead over Pomona-Pitzer.

The Sagehens responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth as senior Kevin Brice drove in two with a bases loaded double and a few errors from the Tigers' defense cut the lead down to 6-5 heading into the top of the sixth.

Occidental turned up its offense and went on to score five runs in the sixth and eight runs in the eighth as they defeated the Sagehens 19-5 in eight innings.

The Tigers struck first again in the first inning of game two on a wild pitch to take an early 1-0 lead and added one more in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Branche to extend their lead to 2-0.

Occidental had a big sixth inning as they scored four runs coming from two RBI singles and two RBI doubles to hold a 6-0 lead over the Sagehens.

Freshman Jeremy Burton followed that up with a RBI single to right field to bring home Hulse as the Sagehens brought the game within three runs at 6-3.
