Baseball: Pomona-Pitzer Drops Game One To Chapman 9-5

ORANGE, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Chapman 9-5 on Friday afternoon at Hart Park.

The Sagehens got on the board first in the top of the third as Chapman walked in one run and hit back-to-back batters to bring home two more runners as Pomona-Pitzer took a 3-0 lead.

The Sagehens got two more in the top of the fifth as senior Kevin Brice scored on a throwing error off of a stolen base and sophomore Cade Hulse doubled down the line to bring home junior Tanner Nishioka as Pomona-Pitzer took a 5-0 lead.

Chapman responded with their first runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double down the line and Greg Dillon brought home Anthony DeNiro on a ground ball to cut the lead down to 5-2.

The Panthers did their damage in the bottom of the eighth as they tallied seven runs in the inning off of the Sagehens bullpen and took a 9-5 lead going into the ninth inning.

The Panthers held off the Pomona-Pitzer offense and completed the comeback win to steal game one of the three-game series.

The Sagehens continue their SCIAC series on Saturday, April 16th as they host Chapman for a double header starting at 11:00 a.m.
