Baseball: Sagehens Split Double Header At Cal Lutheran

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team split in their double header against Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Cal Lutheran as they lost game one 10-0 and won game two 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Ullman Stadium.

Cal Lutheran struck first in the bottom of the third as Gabe Gunter hit a bases loaded single that platted two Kingsmen to take an earl 2-0 lead. The Kingsmen got one more on a wild pitch to extend their lead to 3-0 heading into the fourth inning.

Davey Casciola doubled home one more for Cal Lutheran in the bottom of the fourth as the Kingsmen took a 4-0 lead.

The Kingsmen went on to score two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth and held a 9-0 lead over the Sagehens after six innings of play.

Cal Lutheran added one more run in the bottom of the seventh as they won 10-0 in seven inning in game one of the double header.

After being shut out in game one, the Sagehens looked to take game two of the double header against Cal Lutheran.  

Sophomore Nicholas Radich started on the mound for the Sagehens and threw 6.1 innings and only gave up one run on four hits and fanned five batters.

Pomona-Pitzer struck first in game two as sophomore Duncan Skerrett singled through the right side of the infield to bring home junior Kevin Jordan and Sophomore Matt Omori brought home sophomore Cade Hulse on a sacrifice bunt to give the Sagehens a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth.

Cal Lutheran answered in the bottom of the sixth as Gunter brought home Casciola on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead down to 2-1.

The Sagehens added one more to their total as sophomore Bryce Rogan singled up the middle to bring home Tanner Nishioka to extend the lead to 3-1.

Junior David Gerics came on in the ninth inning for the Sagehens and shut down the Kingsmen offense to earn his first save of the year and notched the sixth SCIAC win of the season for Pomona-Pitzer.

The Sagehens next take the field as they travel to Chapman on Friday, April 15th at 3:00 p.m.
