CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 5 ranked Pomona-Pitzer women's tennis team defeated No. 7 ranked Middlebury 5-4 on Thursday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
The Sagehens started out the day with a 2-1 lead after taking two of the three doubles matches.
The first win of the day for the Sagehens came in the No. 2 doubles match as the team of senior Lea Lynn Yen and freshman Caroline Casper defeated their opponents 8-3.
The second win came in the No. 1 doubles match as the team of sophomore Emily Chen and sophomore Maryann Zhao came back from down 4-7 and won their match by the score of 9-8 (5) in a tie-breaker.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to win three of the six singles match as Yen took the first win in the No. 6 spot as she took down her opponent by the score of 6-2, 6-4.
Freshman Joy Kim went on to win her match in the No. 2 singles match by the score of 6-4, 6-4 and senior Mae Coyiuto clinched the match for the Sagehens with a win in the No. 5 singles by the score of 6-4, 6-1.
The Sagehens next take the court as they host No. 3 ranked SCIAC rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday, April 1st at 2:00 p.m.
