CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 1 ranked Pomona-Pitzer women's tennis team had their eight match win streak snapped by No. 8 Bowdoin by the score of 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Pomona-Pitzer lost only its second match of the year and the first lost since earning the No. 1 overall ranking.
The Sagehens fell behind 2-1 in the doubles competition as the only win came in the No. 2 doubles match with the team of Lea Lynn Yen and Caroline Casper as they defeated their opponents 8-4.
The singles competition was a battle as Bowdoin and Pomona-Pitzer each won three matches and three of the six matches went into a third set.
The Sagehens got their first win in the No. 2 singles match as Casper took care of her opponent 6-2, 6-4.
The next win came in the No. 6 singles as Emily Kuo won her match by the score of 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.
The final win of the day for Pomona-Pitzer was Maryann Zhao with a win in the No. 3 singles match as she defeated her opponent 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
The score was tied at 4-4 with the clinching match coming at the No. 4 singles. Bowdoin was able to upset the Sagehens as Kyra Silitch defeated Mae Coyiuto 7-6 (8), 6-3.
The Sagehens next take the court as they host Tufts on Thursday, March 24th at 4:00 p.m. at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
