CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands 8-4 on Saturday afternoon at Haldeman Pool.
Junior goal keeper Daniel Diemer continued his magnificent play in between the goal posts as he tallied a career-high 17 saves against the Bulldogs.
The Sagehen's offense was led by junior Mark Hallman who got his second hat-trick on the year with three goals in the win.
Both goal keepers posted a shutout in the first quarter and the first goal of the match came as freshman Joseph Schafer found the back of the net with 4:22 left in the second quarter. The Sagehens tacked on three more goals in the second as Sophomore Max Ries scored his first goal and senior James Baker scored back-to-back goals on two-straight exclusions by Redlands to give the Sagehens a 4-1 lead at the half.
The Bulldogs opened up the half with two of the first three goals in the third but Hallman came back and scored three-straight goals in the third to push the Pomona-Pitzer lead to 8-4 heading into the fourth.
The Sagehen defense and Diemer stayed solid in the fourth and shut down the Bulldogs' offense as the Sagehens handed the Bulldogs their first loss in the SCIAC and remain as the only unbeaten team in conference play this season.
