Baseball Falls In Series Opener To Redlands

Box Score

Redlands, Calif. - The Redlands Baseball team held Pomona-Pitzer scoreless over the final seven innings as it captured a 5-2 win over the Sagehens on Friday in the first of a three-game series.

The loss snaps a five-game win streak for Pomona-Pitzer which falls to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the SCIAC. Redlands improves to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Senior shortstop Sam Fox (pictured) had an RBI single in the top of the first inning to put Pomona-Pitzer ahead 1-0. Sophomore catcher Kevin Jordan had a sacrifice fly in the second to make the score 2-0, but the Sagehens were unable to score again, as Redlands tied it in the fifth inning with two runs, and then scored twice in the seventh on a two-run single from Sean McMillan off of Pomona-Pitzer starter Lane Miles, who threw well but took a tough-luck defeat (three earned runs in 6.2 innings).

Felix Minjarez threw eight innings for Redlands, allowing seven hits and Noah Jones threw the ninth to get the save. Nobody had more than one hit for the Sagehens, as Jordan was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice and a sac fly to lead the offense.

Pomona-Pitzer will host Redlands in a doubleheader tomorrow to complete the three-game series, beginning at 11 a.m.
