Claremont, Calif. - Pomona-Pitzer's women's swimming and diving squad earned a strong season opening win over Caltech, 214-58, Saturday in Haldeman Pool.
Pomona-Pitzer won all but two events to record its first conference victory of the season, as well. Individual wins came from Kelsey Thomas (pictured) in the 1000 free (11:07.70), Angela Ling in the 50 back (26.70) and 100 back (58.33), Mackenzie Cummings in the 50 breast (32.10) and 100 breast (1:09.48), Sarah Jin in the 50 fly (26.81) and 100 fly (1:00.29), Maddie Kauahi in the 50 free (24.45), Alex Seidel in the 100 free (55.28), and Lavinya Yap in the 200 IM (2:15.43). In addition, Dawn Barlow won on the 3-meter board with 202.30 pts. Ling, Cummings, Jin, Kauahi and Yap are all frosh, and will provide the Sagehens with an infusion of depth. Ling's 100 back time of 58.33 moves her to #3 on the Sagehen all-time lists, and her 58.32 100 back to lead off the 400 medley relay set a Haldeman Pool record.
Pomona-Pitzer won both relays, as well, with Ling-Erin Bigus-Kara Miller-Radest-Cayla Nishizaki- joining to win the 400 medley relay (4:03.50), and Nishikzaki-Johanna Rayl-Kauahi-Seidel combining to win the 400 free relay (3:38.74).
The Sagehens host the Pomona-Pitzer Relays this Saturday, Oct. 31 in Haldeman Pool, beginning at 11:00am.
