4/23/2026 9:00:00 AM

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Three current and former Sagehen swim and dive student-athletes were announced as NCAA Winter Postgraduate Scholarship winners.

Sabrina Wang, Emmie Appl and Larry Yu were among 42 winter sport student-athletes across all three NCAA divisions to receive $10,000 as part of the association's Postgraduate Scholarship program. These student-athletes were deemed to have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements, athletic excellence and leadership within their communities.

Established in 1964, the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship program promotes and encourages graduate education by recognizing the Association's most accomplished student-athletes. The program evaluates candidates on their athletic and academic achievements, campus involvement, community service and leadership. An equitable selection process ensures that all nominees, regardless of sport, division, gender or race, are considered fairly.

Wang, a senior in 2025-26, competed in the NCAA Championships this season where she was a part of the Sagehens' fourth place 200 free relay team. She also finished third at the SCIAC Championships in the 100 fly, fifth in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free.

Appl graduated in 2025 when she won the 200 breaststroke at the SCIAC Championships and finished second in the 200 IM and 400 IM. She also placed 13th in the 200 breaststroke at the NCAA Championships last season and finished her career as the program record holder in the 200 IM and 400 IM.

Yu competed at Pomona-Pitzer from 2021-2024 where he earned SCIAC Athlete of the Year honors in 2023 and currently holds program records in the 500 free, 100 IM, 100 back, 50 back, 200 breaststroke, 200 IM and 400 IM.
