Sagehens Coast Past Caltech To Start Busy Weekend

Claremont, Calif. - The No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team swept doubles and went on to take an 8-1 win over Caltech on Friday afternoon at Pauley Tennis Complex. 

With the win, the Sagehens improve to 10-3 on the season and 3-0 in the SCIAC. Caltech slips to 8-5 overall with the loss.

Pomona-Pitzer has two more matches tomorrow, a morning SCIAC tilt at Occidental and a home battle with No. 2 Williams at 4 p.m. As a result, the Sagehens we able to put some new players into the lineup. Senior Constance Wu (pictured left) and Alex Antonoplis (pictured right) ) played at No. 3 doubles and took an 8-0 win, while freshmen Mallory Roth and Gillian Hsieh Ratliff were inserted into the singles lineup and picked up 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 wins for the first two singles victories to clinch the match.

Mae Coyiuto moved up a line to No. 1 singles for the first time in her career and came away with a hard-fought 6-1, 7-5 win over Monica Li of Caltech. Jenny Sheng earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles for the Beavers to give them their lone point.

Pomona-Pitzer's match with Williams was originally scheduled for Sunday, but was moved up a day to tomorrow at 4 p.m.
