Pasadena, Calif. - Freshman Lea Lynn Yen (Fullerton, Calif. - pictured left) and junior Arthi Padmanabhan (Saratoga, Calif. - pictured right) won 8-0 in doubles, and then both won 6-0, 6-0 in singles as the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team earned an 8-1 win over Caltech on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Sagehens, who are ranked No. 14 in the nation by the ITA, improve to 10-5 overall on the season and 5-1 in the SCIAC.
Padmanabhan won her match at No. 4 singles, and Yen won hers at No. 5, while senior Jessica Hsu (Henderson, Nev.) took a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6, as Pomona-Pitzer's depth proved to be too much for Caltech.
The Beavers did perform well at the top of the ladder, with Rebekah Kitto earning a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, and Monica Li giving freshman Mae Coyiuto (Makati City, Philippines) all she could handle at No. 2. Coyiuto, though, prevailed in the pro-set tiebreaker in the third for a 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 win to improve to 13-2 in singles this year.
Junior Sammy Chao (Taipei, Taiwan) added a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles for the Sagehens, and combined with senior Kara Wang (Saratoga, Calif.) for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
Pomona-Pitzer is back in action tomorrow for a SCIAC match at Chapman (held at the Anaheim Hills Tennis Center), beginning at 10 a.m.
