Claremont, Calif. - Freshman pitchers Cameron Yen (Placentia, Calif. - pictured) and Simon Rosenbaum (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) both improved to 2-0 in their careers with strong pitching performances as the Pomona-Pitzer baseball team improved to 7-0 with a road doubleheader sweep of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (13-3 and 4-2) on Saturday afternoon.

The Sagehens completed a three-game sweep of the weekend series to move to 3-0 in SCIAC play, and have now beaten the Stags eight straight times in their cross-street rivalry (including all four meetings last year and the final meeting in 2011). CMS falls to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the SCIAC with the loss.

Remarkably, Pomona-Pitzer scored in each of the first 13 innings of the series. The Sagehens scored in every inning of yesterday's 11-1, seven-inning victory at home, and then scored in the first six innings of the 13-3 opener today. Including the final inning against Whitworth last weekend, Pomona-Pitzer managed at least one run in 14 straight innings.

Yen allowed five hits and one run over six innings of work to improve to 2-0 on the year in the opener. Senior right fielder Nick Gentili (Glendale, Calif.) was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, two RBI and a home run, the second straight game he went yard against the Stags.

The nightcap proved to be a more competitive game, as the teams traded runs in the second inning, with Pomona-Pitzer taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from junior catcher Coleman Lukas (Berkeley, Calif.) before the Stags answered in the bottom half.

A three-run fifth inning proved to be the difference for the Sagehens, as senior center fielder Erik Munzer (Beverly Hills, Calif.) led off with a double and came home on an RBI double from Gentili. After an error gave Pomona-Pitzer its third run, Rosenbaum helped his own cause with an RBI double to make the score 4-1.

Rosenbaum labored on the mound a bit, but got some quality defense behind him as he threw 95 pitches, allowing two runs on nine hits, before leaving the game after six. Sophomore first baseman Jake Bruml (San Mateo, Calif.) had a diving catch of a bunt to turn into a double play in the third, sophomore second baseman Mark Okuma (Palos Verdes, Calif.) made a leaping catch to end the fifth, and Munzer had a diving catch in center for the second out in the sixth.

The Sagehen bullpen then stepped up as senior Stuart Gano (Lakewood, Wash.) and junior Robert Weller (Irvine, Calif.) did not allow a hit over the last three innings. Weller came on in the eighth to get the final out on a strikeout, and then retired the side in order in the ninth for his third save already this season (while retiring all 11 batters he's faced).

Bruml and Rosenbaum each went 2-for-4 for the Sagehens in the nightcap, while the seven other starters each had one hit. Remarkably all nine starters had at least one hit in all three games of the weekend series as Pomona-Pitzer had production up and down its lineup.

The Sagehens will be back in action next weekend for a three-game series with Cal Lutheran.
