AZUSA, CA. – The Sagehens earned a 2-0 victory over Azusa Pacific on Wednesday night on the road.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens are 6-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in SCIAC play.
The match opened in a physical battle, with both teams fighting for control. Patricia DePalma made two saves in the opening 25 minutes, while Azusa Pacific hit the woodwork in the 30th minute. The Sagehens kept the Cougars off the scoreboard through the opening half.
Pomona-Pitzer continued to defend well after the break, with DePalma making two more saves early in the second half. The Sagehens began to find more chances as the half progressed, with Bailey Brooke and Lucia Page Sander each forcing saves from APU goalkeeper. The Sagehens broke through in the 72nd minute when Sabina Peterson Rajalingam found the back of the net, with Anya Offenbacher-Jones providing the assist to give Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 lead. Pomona-Pitzer continued to pressure late, with Ava Watanabe forcing another save in the 78th minute. DePalma came up with another key stop in the 81st minute to keep APU off the board. The Sagehens sealed their lead in the 86th minute when Emi Skerritt scored her third goal of the season to make it 2-0. Pomona-Pitzer's defense held firm through the final minutes to preserve the shutout and secure the victory. With the win, the Sagehens move to 6-1-1 on the season.
