CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's volleyball fell in straight sets (19-25, 23-25, 18-25) to Whittier Saturday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: The result puts the Sagehens at 6-8 on the season, including 0-2 in SCIAC play.
Anna Krebs led the team with eight kills on a .273 clip, while
CC Porter followed with seven kills on a .375 hitting percentage to go with three blocks.
Kayla Thienprasiddhi had five kills and nine digs while
Corrina Benson posted 30 digs.
Trailing 18-13 in set one, Porter,
Ella Mesard and Krebs traded kills to bring the Sagehens within three, 19-16. Krebs added another kill down the stretch but Whittier pulled away for the 25-19 opening set win.
Pomona-Pitzer led early in set two, with kills from
Charlotte Sekerka and Thienprasiddhi giving the team a 14-10 advantage. Whittier scored the next six, but a 4-0 Sagehen run capped with a Porter kill put the Sagehens back up 18-16. A Krebs and Porter block later tied the game at 21 before the Poets scored the next two. Teams traded points the rest of the way, with Whittier eventually pulling out the 25-23 set two win.
Sekerka and Thienprasiddhi shared a block before Porter recorded a solo stuff midway through the third, with the Sagehens trailing 15-14. But the Poets scored six of the next seven to take a 21-15 lead. Whittier scored the final four points of the match, coming away with set three, 25-18, and the match, 3-0.
