PASADENA, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's soccer team earned a dominant 7-0 victory over Caltech on Saturday afternoon, with seven different Sagehens finding the back of the net. Of the seven goal scorers, six recorded their first collegiate goals, with Ava Watanabe the lone exception.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens are 5-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer came out attacking from the opening whistle, creating several scoring opportunities in the opening 20 minutes. The Sagehens broke through in the 21st minute when Ava Watanabe scored her third goal of the season to give Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 lead. Just over a minute later, Tara Kamshad doubled the advantage with her first collegiate goal, putting the Sagehens ahead 2-0. Pomona-Pitzer continued to control the match, and Ally Hsieh added another goal in the 29th minute off an assist from Vivian Rojas Collins for her first collegiate goal. The Sagehens added a fourth goal in the 39th minute when Arden Galvelis found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal, sending Pomona-Pitzer into halftime with a 4-0 advantage. Hsieh continued to create opportunities throughout the opening half, including a shot that hit the crossbar.
Pomona-Pitzer carried its offensive momentum into the second half, with Emi Skerritt scoring in the 49th minute off an assist from Lilah Pruner for her first collegiate goal, extending the lead to 5-0. Anna Kellner added another goal in the 74th minute for her first collegiate goal, before Adriana Torres found the back of the net less than two minutes later for her first collegiate goal to make it 7-0. The Sagehens continued to create chances throughout the final minutes, with Kellner, Hsieh, Galvelis, Sophia Amanquah, Sophie Boatright and Torres all recording additional opportunities. Pomona-Pitzer held Caltech scoreless for the full 90 minutes to secure the 7-0 shutout victory, with seven different Sagehens scoring in the win and six players recording the first collegiate goals of their careers.
