CLAREMONT, CA. – The Sagehens earned a 1-0 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday night, securing the Sixth Street Rivalry win.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens are 4-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in SCIAC play.
The match opened with both teams creating chances, as Patricia DePalma made two early saves to keep CMS off the scoreboard. Pomona-Pitzer created opportunities of its own, with Imogen Jenkyn and Lucia Page Sander each testing CMS goalkeeper. Neither team was able to break through in the opening half, sending the match into halftime scoreless.
Pomona-Pitzer came out strong after the break, with Vivian Rojas Collins forcing a save in the opening minutes. The Sagehens broke through in the 57th minute when Bailey Brooke who has scored three times in the past three games now, found the back of the net with Anya Offenbacher-Jones providing the assist to give Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 lead.
The Sagehens continued to create chances throughout the second half, with Jenkyn forcing multiple saves and Offenbacher-Jones and Page Sander each adding shots. CMS pushed for an equalizer late, but DePalma came up with key saves in the final five minutes. Pomona-Pitzer held on through the final whistle to secure the 1-0 victory and claim the Sixth Street Rivalry.
