Football Drops Road Contest At Lewis & Clark

Portland, Ore.— The Pomona-Pitzer Football team dropped its first game of the season with a 49-28 road loss at Lewis & Clark on Saturday afternoon.

Carson Green paced the Pomona-Pitzer offense through the air before giving way to Dominick Catalano off the bench. Green completed 24 of 45 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns while Catalano came in and went 11-of-13 for 104 yards and a touchdown.

On the ground, Mitchell Rodenbaugh led the way with 47 yards on just six carries, a 7.8-yard average, while Brennan Dragomer added 30 yards on seven attempts and Catalano chipped in 13 rushing yards of his own out of the backfield.

Jack Sobota was the go-to target in the passing game, hauling in five catches for a team-high 114 yards and two touchdowns, including a 47-yard connection with Green. Broghan Daley added eight receptions for 53 yards, Jackson Irons caught seven passes for 72 yards, and Owen Willingham chipped in a 35-yard grab.

Defensively, Leo Ryals anchored the effort with a team-high 10 tackles, eight of them solo, while Colin Miller (seven tackles) and Cole Krawiec (six tackles) had high-tackle days as well. Cooper Sansbury added five tackles to go with a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. Up front, Alden Kling recorded a sack, a tackle for loss and six quarterback hurries in the backfield. Jaques Philippe came up with Pomona-Pitzer's only interception of the game, returning it 15 yards, while Kalani Pickett broke up two passes in coverage.

The story of the first half was turnovers and big plays. Lewis & Clark scored on five of its first six possessions, capitalizing on a Kristopher Adams pick-six off a Carson Green pass just their second series of the game.

Pomona-Pitzer had answers early with Buchenau, Sobota and Black all finding the end zone through the air, but three interceptions off starter Carson Green, including the opening pick-six, put the Sagehens in an early.

The Sagehens outscored Lewis & Clark 14-0 after halftime, getting a Sobota touchdown grab early in the third and a late fourth-quarter score on a Black touchdown catch from Catalano to cap the scoring.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next return home as they host SCIAC rival CMS for the Sixth Street Rivalry on Saturday September 26th at 7:00 PM.
