LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Sagehens earned a 2-1 victory over Occidental on Saturday afternoon on the road
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens start the season 3-1-1 and 1-0-1 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer got on the scoreboard early, with Sabina Peterson Rajalingam finding the back of the net in the fifth minute to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead. Ingrid Nelson provided the assist on the opening goal.
The Sagehens continued to create chances throughout the opening half, with Bailey Brooke and Peterson Rajalingam each forcing saves from the Occidental goalkeeper. Pomona-Pitzer controlled much of the early action, but Occidental found an equalizer in the 32nd minute to make it 1-1. The teams entered halftime tied at 1-1.
Pomona-Pitzer quickly regained the lead in the second half when Bailey put the ball in the top left corner of the net in the 49th minute to put the Sagehens ahead 2-1. The Sagehens continued to pressure Occidental throughout the second half, with Peterson Rajalingam, Lucia Page Sander, Anya Offenbacher-Jones and Ally Hsieh all creating chances. DePalma also came up with key saves late, including stops in the 67th and 71st minutes to preserve the Sagehens' lead. Pomona-Pitzer continued to generate opportunities in the final minutes, while the defense held Occidental to just one shot after the 71st minute. The Sagehens held on through the final whistle to secure the 2-1 victory.
