CLAREMONT, CA. – The Sagehens fell 1-0 to Occidental on Saturday afternoon in a hard-fought SCIAC matchup.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens are 4-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer created several chances in the opening half, with Aidan MacLennan recording a shot in the 17th minute. Enzo Dal Bo and Jedi Scott also put shots on goal, but the Occidental goalkeeper turned both attempts away. Gavin Honey made two saves in the opening half to keep the match scoreless at the break.
The Sagehens came out attacking in the second half, with MacLennan forcing back-to-back saves in the opening three minutes. MacLennan continued to pressure the Occidental defense, recording another shot on goal in the 59th minute. Occidental broke through in the 55th minute to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Pomona-Pitzer continued to push for an equalizer, with Seb Lee Jara forcing a save in the 60th minute and MacLennan adding two more shots later in the half. The Sagehens continued to battle through the final minutes, but Occidental's defense held firm. Honey made another save in the 85th minute, but Pomona-Pitzer was unable to find the equalizer before the final whistle.
Occidental held on for the 1-0 victory.
