THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Sagehens earned a 3-0 victory over Cal Lutheran on Wednesday night in the SCIAC opener.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens are 4-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Aidan MacLennan converting a penalty kick in the third minute to give the Sagehens an early 1-0 lead. Cal Lutheran created several chances throughout the opening half, but Gavin Honey kept the Kingsmen off the board with multiple saves. Honey made two saves on in the first 19 minutes before another stop late in the half. Pomona-Pitzer carried its 1-0 advantage into halftime.
The Sagehens came out strong in the second half, with Ryo Kasai and Townes Richardson recording early shots. MacLennan doubled the lead in the 57th minute, scoring his second goal of the night with an assist from Blake Hartfelder. Just over 10 minutes later, MacLennan completed his hat trick when he scored again in the 68th minute, this time assisted by Seb Lee Jara, putting Pomona-Pitzer ahead 3-0. Cal Lutheran continued to push late, but Honey and the Sagehens' defense held firm. Honey made four more saves in the final 20 minutes to preserve the shutout. The Sagehens closed out the 3-0 victory to open SCIAC play with a win.
