CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 18 Pomona-Pitzer women's tennis team opened NCAA Tournament play with a 4-1 victory over No. 25 Colorado College on Friday morning at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in the NCAA Division III Tournament Second Round.
Pomona-Pitzer gained momentum early by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Lauren Rha and Leticia Bazua Vazquez earned a 6-3 victory at the top spot, while Tessa Ellingson and Aditi Gulati followed with a 6-4 win at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match featuring Ishya Bhavsar and Annique Varty was left unfinished with the Sagehens leading 5-4.
The Sagehens carried the momentum into singles play, winning three matches to clinch the team victory. Rha dominated at No. 1 singles with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win, while Varty added another point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6. Ellingson sealed the match at No. 4 singles, battling to a 7-5, 6-1 victory. Colorado College earned its lone point at No. 3 singles, while multiple matches were left unfinished once Pomona-Pitzer secured the fourth team point. With the win, the Sagehens advance to the next round of the NCAA Division III Tournament as they continue their postseason run.
