Lacrosse Wins Fifth Straight SCIAC Tournament Championship

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's lacrosse claimed its fifth straight SCIAC Tournament Championship by defeating CMS 18-10 Saturday night at Merritt Field. The win gives the Sagehens an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. 
 
Caili Cross led the Sagehen offense with five goals on seven shots to go with an assist. Taylor Glanville and Nora LeBlanc each scored three while Madeleine Trapp posted two. Carly Katzman dished out a game-high three assists. Cailey Brousseau and Ruby Loesch each tallied five saves through 30 minutes in goal. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer scored the game's first three goals, with Glanville going back-to-back and Cross notching her first. The Athenas responded with a pair of their own before LeBlanc found the back of the net, giving the Sagehens a 4-2 lead through the first quarter. 
 
Cross and the Sagehens scored four unanswered to open the second period. After Cross' second of the game, Glanville, Madelyn Katz and Trapp each found the back of the net. CMS then scored two but Maihue Miranda Wiltberger scored with 11 seconds before the half as Pomona-Pitzer led 9-4 at the break.
 
Cross scored another two and LeBlanc added a man-up score to put the Sagehens up 12-4. The Athenas then scored three straight before Pomona-Pitzer answered with a 3-0 run of its own. Gwynn Sullivan, LeBlanc and Catherine Faucette each scored as the Sagehens enjoyed a 15-7 lead through three. 
 
CMS opened the fourth with a goal before Katzman and Cross traded scores. The Athenas scored two more before the final horn as well as Trapp, as Pomona-Pitzer came away with the 18-10 victory. 
 
The Sagehens will now await their NCAA Postseason fate with the NCAA Selection Show taking place on Monday, May 4.
