Women's Water Polo Secures 15th SCIAC Regular Season Title

CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team secured its 15th SCIAC regular season championship in program history with a 10-5 victory at CMS Wednesday night.
 
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens finish the regular season at 18-15 overall and a perfect 12-0 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens were led by Mia Amberger, who scored three goals in the win. Ayva Magna and Katie Hugar each picked up two goals, while Lisbon Zeigler, Gabby Lewis and Celia Young each netted one goal.
 
Pomona-Pitzer started strong and earned five goals in the first half, including the first four of the game. Amberger started the scoring with a power play goal at 4:26 left in the first quarter. Young brought the Sagehens ahead 2-0 and netted a goal with 0:42 left on the clock. Pomona-Pitzer ended the first quarter in the lead 2-0. Hugar started the scoring in the second quarter and scored a penalty goal with 7:39 left in the period. Magna soon followed and secured a goal at the 5:48 mark to bring the Sagehens ahead 4-0. The Athenas broke through the Pomona-Pitzer defenses and picked up a goal, but Hugar soon replied and earned one with 1:20 left on the clock. The Sagehens entered halftime ahead of CMS 5-1.
 
The Sagehens continued playing strong through the second half and picked up five more goals in the third and fourth quarters. Amberger started the scoring in the second half and earned an early goal with 6:57 left in the third quarter. CMS picked up another goal, but Zeigler scored a goal during a power play with 5:21 left on the clock and maintained the Pomona-Pitzer heading. Amberger then picked up another goal at the 3:22 mark, and Magna netted one at the 2:26 mark. Also contributing to the scoring, Lewis found a goal with 1:55 left in the period. The Sagehens entered the fourth quarter ahead of the Athenas 10-2.

CMS struck first in the final quarter with three goals but it wasn't enough. The Sagehens sealed the SCIAC regular season title with a 10-5 win over CMS.
