CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team defeated Chapman 18-8 in the SCIAC Tournament Semifinals Thursday night at Haldeman Pool. The Sagehens will now face CMS in the tournament championship game at home Saturday at 11:00 a.m. PT.
Mia Amberger led all scorers with five goals to go with three assists while
Brienz Lang scored three goals and dished out an assist.
Celia Young and
Ayva Magna each scored two goals in the win.
Pomona-Pitzer jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter, fueled by a pair of scores each from Amberger and Magna.
Chloe Mei Espinosa later sealed a 6-0 Sagehen run to give the team a 13-1 advantage. Amberger added another as Pomona-Pitzer led 14-2 at the half.
The Panthers scored the first three goals of the third period before Young found the back of the net. Lang scored back-to-back goals and
Ava Gurney added one of her own on the power play midway through the fourth. Chapman scored the final two goals of the game but the Sagehens came away with the 18-8 victory.
