REDLANDS, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo capped a perfect 10-0 record in SCIAC play with a 13-10 victory at Redlands Saturday.
Season Impact: The win gives the Sagehens a final overall record of 14-1 and a 10-0 mark in conference action.
Caili Cross led Pomona-Pitzer with four goals while
Carly Katzman,
Nora LeBlanc and
Madeleine Trapp each added two. Trapp also dished out six assists for a team-high eight points.
Cailey Brousseau was credited with the win in goal with a save in the first half, while
Ruby Loesch notched four saves in the second half.
Cross got the Sagehens on the board first with an unassisted goal just 32 seconds into the game. Redlands responded three minutes later with a score before Cross added two more goals of her own, giving Pomona-Pitzer a 3-1 lead. Teams traded two more goals each in the first quarter, with Katzman and LeBlanc finding the back of the net both off Trapp assists as the Sagehens led 5-3 through 15 minutes.
Trapp set up
Chloe Denhart for a score just over two minutes into the second period before finding LeBlanc for another goal at the 8:31 mark. The Bulldogs scored a minute later but Pomona-Pitzer led 7-4 at the half.
The Sagehens came out firing in the third quarter, with Cross,
Piper Higgins and Trapp each scoring within four minutes of the start of the period. Redlands scored a pair of their own as Pomona-Pitzer carried a 10-6 advantage into the final quarter.
Katzman found the back of the net again off another Trapp assist 39 seconds into the fourth. Katzman then set up
Taylor Glanville for a score at the 8:51 mark, giving the Sagehens a 12-6 lead. Redlands scored three goals within a 90-second frame before Trapp added a goal with 5:26 remaining. The Bulldogs scored once more with 1:39 left but Pomona-Pitzer eventually came away with the 13-10 win.
