THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer split its Saturday doubleheader with Cal Lutheran to earn a 2-1 series win over the Kingsmen.

Season Impact: The results put the Sagehens at 24-12 on the season, including 14-7 in SCIAC play.

Kai Gonzaga posted a pair of RBI to lead Pomona-Pitzer's offense in game two of the series while Cooper Berry and Peter Savas each added one. Will Polishuk was tabbed with the loss after going 2.0 innings while Wade Lawson struck out five in 3.1 innings of relief.

The Kingsmen scored a run in the first inning before a Savas sac fly tied things up in the second. Cal Lutheran, though, used a five-run second inning to go up 6-1. Gonzaga notched an RBI single in the fourth. He then drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth and Berry was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing Pomona-Pitzer within two, 6-4.

But Cal Lutheran sealed the game with a run in the fifth, three in the sixth and another in the seventh, eventually coming away with the 11-4 win.

The Kingsmen clawed their way back to within a run, 4-3, by the sixth inning. But Hu posted an RBI double in the eighth to give Pomona-Pitzer some insurance. Devin Saltzgaber and the Sagehen defense closed the game strong, as Pomona-Pitzer eventually sealed the 5-3 win.
