Four Sagehens Homer in Series Opening Win Over Cal Lutheran

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer baseball used an 11-run fourth inning to earn a game-one victory over Cal Lutheran Friday afternoon at Alumni FIeld. 
 
Season Impact: The win puts the Sagehens at 23-11, including 13-6 in SCIAC play. 
 
Four different Sagehens homered in the win, including Tanner DeGrazia, Will Parker, Jack Gold and Landon Hu. DeGrazia and Parker each posted three RBI while Kai Gonzaga, Gold, Hu and Peter Savas contributed two RBI apiece. Eli Della Bitta earned the win from the mound, going 2.1 innings in relief with three strikeouts, no earned runs and just one hit. 
 
Cal Lutheran got on the board first in the opening frame with a solo shot. The Sagehens responded with a pair of runs in the second off a Gold RBI triple and a James Quintero sac fly. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer then blew the game open with an 11-run inning to take a 13-1 advantage. Gold blasted a solo shot to right to start the scoring, before Greg Pierantoni and Cooper Berry traded RBI. DeGrazia then belted a three-run homer. Hu, Savas and Gonzaga also tallied RBI in the frame. 
 
The Kingsmen got four runs back in the fifth to cut the Sagehens' lead, 13-5. Hu then hit a solo home run to center field in the sixth. Parker sealed the Pomona-Pitzer win with a three-run homer in the seventh, triggering the 17-5 seven-inning run-rule victory. 
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will take on the Kingsmen in a road doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, Apr. 25, with first pitch slated for 11:00 a.m. PT.
