Lacrosse Secures SCIAC Regular Season Title with Win Over CMS

CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer women's lacrosse team clinched its fifth straight SCIAC Regular Season Championship Wednesday night after defeating CMS 16-6. 

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve their record to 13-1 overall and an undefeated 9-0 in SCIAC play.

Taylor Glanville scored four goals to lead Pomona-Pitzer offensively, while Gwynn Sullivan and Piper Higgins each scored three. Maihue Miranda Wiltberger, Nora LeBlanc and Caili Cross posted two goals apiece.   

The Sagehens gained control early, scoring twelve goals in the first half, including five in the first quarter. Glanville opened the scoring  with 12:27 left in the opening period, followed by Sullivan who scored a free position goal at the 10:53 mark. Miranda Wiltberger then found the back of the net with 8:56 left on the clock. CMS then managed to get on the board, but Glanville picked up another score with a player advantage at the 3:08 mark before Katzman scored one with 1:50 left on the clock to put the Sagehens ahead 5-1. 

The Athenas struck first in the second quarter, but Pomona-Pitzer replied with a series of goals. Glanville added another one at the 12:00 mark, Higgins scored with 8:05 left in the period, and Cross earned one at the 4:45 mark. Leblanc found a goal during a player advantage with 2:53 left on the clock, Higgins added one at the 0:52 mark, and Leblanc secured another one with 0:43 left in the half to push the Sagehens' lead to 12-3.  

Higgins continued the scoring in the second half with 13:19 left on the clock. The Athenas then scored, but Sullivan scored a goal of her own at the 10:36 mark. Miranda Wiltberger picked up another one with 6:14 left in the period to bring Pomona-Pitzer ahead 15-4. CMS found the first goal in the fourth, but Sullivan soon secured one at the 3:33 mark. The Sagehens eventually closed out the match with a 16-6 victory over the Athenas. 

Up Next: The Sagehens will travel to face Redlands in their regular season finale on Saturday, Apr. 25, at 12:00 p.m. PT.
