CLAREMONT, CA. – The Sagehens sweep the double header vs. Occidental College, winning 2–0 in game one and 1-4 in game two.
Season Impact: With the wins, the Sagehens record is now to 16–18 overall and 9–6 in SCIAC play.
Game One
Sagehens 2, Oxy 0
The Sagehens totaled two runs on nine hits in the contest. Sadie Huryn led the way with a 2-for-4 performance, while Kylie Liu also added two hits and scored a run. Claire Sefkow contributed with a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in a run, while Audrey Reimers added an RBI knock. Marie Milton chipped in with two hits to round out the offensive effort. In the circle, Reimers delivered a complete-game shutout, earning the win after allowing just four hits over seven innings. She walked one and struck out one, efficiently working through the lineup while inducing seven flyouts and 10 groundouts to keep Occidental off the board.
The Sagehens struck early in the first inning, using a string of four hits to plate two runs and take a 2–0 lead. Reimers opened the scoring with an RBI single, and Sefkow followed with another RBI knock to extend the advantage.The Sagehens continued to apply pressure throughout the middle innings, consistently putting runners on base, but were unable to add to their lead. Despite multiple scoring opportunities, timely outs from Occidental kept the margin at two. From there, Pomona-Pitzer's defense held firm, limiting Occidental's chances and turning a key double play in the seventh inning to shut the door and secure the 2–0 victory.
Game Two
Sagehens 7, Oxy 4
The Sagehens totaled seven runs on nine hits. Marie Milton led the way with a perfect 2-for-2 outing, scoring twice and adding an RBI, while Gianna Phillips contributed two hits and drove in a pair. Yuri Song delivered a key three-RBI triple, and Kylie Liu added an RBI double while reaching base twice. Natalie Murguia and Claire Sefkow each chipped in with a hit and a run scored to support the effort. In the circle, Mia Lopez earned the win after tossing five strong innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out three and working around three walks. Nyla Springer closed the game to secure the save, throwing two innings and allowing three runs on four hits while preserving the Sagehens' lead.
The Sagehens broke through in the second inning, stringing together three hits before Song delivered a bases-clearing triple to give the Sagehens an early 3–0 lead. The offense stayed quiet over the next few innings despite scattered opportunities, while Occidental got on the board in the fifth with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 3–1. The Sagehens created traffic late and capitalized in the seventh inning, taking advantage of a defensive miscue before Liu drove in a run with an RBI double. Milton followed with another RBI double, and Phillips capped the rally with a two-run single to extend the lead to 7–1. Occidental mounted a late push in the bottom of the seventh, stringing together four hits to score three runs and trim the margin. However, Pomona-Pitzer held on down the stretch to secure the 7–4 victory.
