CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer earned a 14-0 shutout victory at Caltech Friday afternoon in game one of the two teams' three-game series.
Season Impact: The result puts the Sagehens at 20-11 on the season, including 10-6 in SCIAC play.
Jack Gold and
Landon Hu batted in four runs apiece to lead the Sagehen offense, with Gold blasting a pair of homers.
Tanner DeGrazia posted three RBI while
Kai Gonzaga contributed two.
Max Brunngraber earned the win from the mound, striking out four while allowing just four hits.
Devin Saltzgaber struck out seven in relief.
Pomona-Pitzer put up five runs in the opening frame, thanks to a two-run shot from DeGrazia, a Hu two-run single and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Gonzaga. Gonzaga added a sac-bunt RBI in the third as the Sagehens led 6-0.
Gold belted his first homer, a three-run shot to center field, in the fourth. Hu nailed a two-run homer later in the inning before DeGrazia was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Gold then blasted a solo shot in the seventh, as the Sagehens eventually came away with the 14-0 win.
