Baseball Falls in Doubleheader to CMS

AZUSA, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer baseball dropped its doubleheader to CMS Saturday, falling 3-0 in its three-game series with the Stags. 
 
Season Impact: The results put the Sagehens at 19-11 on the season, including 9-6 in SCIAC play. 
 
Sagehens 2, CMS 6
 
CMS opened the first game of the doubleheader with a 5-0 lead through the first four innings. Greg Pierantoni put the Sagehens on the board in the fifth with an RBI single that drove Lateef Wakil home. The Stags then added a run in the seventh to go up 6-1. 
 
Cooper Berry blasted a solo shot to right field in the eighth to bring Pomona-Pitzer within four, 6-2. But it wasn't enough as the Sagehens fell 6-2. Will Polishuk was credited with the loss despite going 5.0 innings with six strikeouts. Wade Lawson struck out five batters in 3.0 innings of relief.

Berry stayed hot to start the final game of the series, belting a two-run homer to right in the top of the first to put the Sagehens up 2-0. But the Stags scored five unanswered to take a 5-2 advantage by the third. 
 
Gold tallied an RBI single in the fourth before Sammy Lee drew a bases-loaded walk, bringing Pomona-Pitzer within a run, 5-4. But CMS scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to go up 8-4. Tanner DeGrazia drew another bases-loaded walk in the seventh and Gold hit an RBI sac fly in the frame, making it 8-6 Stags. 
 
CMS, though, scored another pair of runs in the seventh and eventually came away with the 10-6 win and series sweep. Lucas Dennis was tabbed with the loss despite pitching 5.0 innings with three strikeouts. 
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will take on Caltech in a three-game series next weekend, first playing at the Beavers on Friday, Apr. 17, at 3:00 p.m. PT.
