CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo split its final day of the 2026 Convergence Tournament, falling to Wagner 14-9 before defeating McKendree 21-12.
Season Impact: The results put the Sagehens at 9-10 on the season, including 4-0 in SCIAC play.
Sagehens 9, Wagner 14
Katie Hugar,
Ayva Magna and
Layla Szymczak paced the team offensively with two goals apiece.
Isabella Dova anchored the defense with 10 saves in goal.
The Sagehens fell behind 2-0 early before
Lisbon Zeigler and Hugar traded scores to tie the game. Wagner scored the next two but goals from
Mia Amberger, Hugar and a pair from Magna gave Pomona-Pitzer a 6-4 advantage. Wagner scored two more before the half to tie the game 6-6 at the break.
Wagner took control in the second half, scoring the third period's first three goals before Szymczak found the back of the net. Szymczak and
Ava Gurney both scored in the fourth but Wagner came away with the 14-9 victory.
Sagehens 21, McKendree 12
Kailoa Kerber and Amberger led Pomona-Pitzer with three goals apiece versus McKendree. Amberger added three assists for a game-high six points.
Vivienne Wood anchored the defense with 10 saves over three quarters in goal.
McKendree got on the board first before the Sagehens unleashed a 7-0 run fueled by a pair of scores from Hugar. Amberger scored a pair in the second before
Natalie Sullivan Wu and
Sophia Berger found the back of the net, giving Pomona-Pitzer a 15-3 lead at the half.

Bella McGowan and Kerber traded scores in the third period. Kerber and
Isabelle Nicole both scored in the fourth as the Sagehens came away with the 21-12 victory.
