Baseball Posts Series Win Over Redlands

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer baseball split its Saturday doubleheader with Redlands to take the three-game series over the Bulldogs, 2-1. 
 
Season Impact: The results put the Sagehens at 12-6 on the season, including 4-2 in SCIAC play.

Pomona-Pitzer cruised to an 18-0 lead through three innings and never looked back to take game two and seal the series win over the Bulldogs. Tanner DeGrazia posted six RBI to lead the team while Kai Gonzaga and Will Parker each added four. Will Polishuk earned the win from the mound, going 6.0 innings and punching out seven while giving up just two hits and two runs. 
 
Lateef Wakil opened the scoring with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first before Gonzaga and DeGrazia each blasted two-run shots. The Sagehens scored five more in the second to go up 10-0, behind RBI from Cooper Berry and DeGrazia. An eight-run third inning made it 18-0 Pomona-Pitzer, as Pierantoni, Gold and Gonzaga posted RBI as well as Parker, who notched a grand slam in the frame. 
 
Redlands got two runs back in the fourth before Savas and Landon Hu tallied RBI in the bottom of the frame to make it 20-2. DeGrazia secured his second homer of the game in the fifth before George Nahabedian posted his first career homer in the sixth. Savas added one more RBI in the sixth as the Sagehens came away with the 26-2 victory.

The Bulldogs flipped the script in the final contest of the three-game series, scoring the first 14 runs of the game. Gonzaga and Berry each posted an RBI to lead Pomona-Pitzer. 
 
Redlands scored one in the second and four in the third to go up 5-0. The Bulldogs then used a nine-run fourth inning to take a 14-0 lead. Berry got a run back for the Sagehens in the fourth with a solo shot to right center. Gonzaga then posted an RBI in the fifth. But Redlands came away with the 14-2 win. 
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will next face La Verne in a three-game series, Mar. 20-21, first taking on the Leopards at Alumni Field on Mar. 20 at 3:00 p.m. PT.
