CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team fell 19-5 to Arizona State and secured a 10-9 victory over California Baptist on its first day of the Convergence Tournament on Friday.
Season Impact: With the win and the loss, the Sagehens continue their season 8-9 overall and 4-0 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by
Bella McGowan against the Sun Devils, who scored three goals throughout the game. Also contributing to scoring were
Katie Hugar,
Sydney Bowns, and
Harper Casey-Housand who each netted one.
Pomona-Pitzer struggled to gain a footing in the first half of the match. While the Sagehens crafted several opportunities to score, they were unable to convert and fell behind ASU. Despite the strong effort, Pomona-Pitzer finished the first period down 0-4. Pomona-Pitzer attempted to put themselves on the scoreboard in the second period, but a series of turnovers allowed ASU to advance their offensive attacks. The Sagehens attempted to catch up but still were unable to covert and entered halftime behind 0-10.
Pomona-Pitzer furthered their attempts to catch up and started scoring in the second half and managed to earn five goals in the third and fourth quarters. ASU struck first in the third period. However, Hugar managed to earn a penalty goal with 3:11 left on the clock to put the Sagehens on the scoreboard. Still, the ASU efforts ensues and Pomona-Pitzer entered the final period behind Arizona 1-14.
The Sagehens continued their efforts to catch up to through the end of the fourth quarter. ASU, again, struck first in the period. However, McGowan responded by netting a goal on a power play with 4:19 left on the clock. Bowns followed suit and earned a goal with 3:05 left on the clock to bring Pomona-Pitzer behind 3-17. While ASU continued to break past the Sagehen defenses, McGowan then earned another goal with 0:49 left on the clock. McGowan followed soon after and earned a last-minute goal during a power play with 0:07 left on the clock. Despite the strong effort on all fronts, Pomona-Pitzer was unable to find the upper hand and fell to Arizona 5-19.

The Sagehens were led by
Ayva Magna and Lisbon Ziegler who each earned a hat trick by netting three goals for the win. Also contributing to the win,
Natalie Sullivan Wu,
Katie Hugar,
Sydney Bowns, and
Chloe Mei Espinosa each earned one goal.
Pomona-Pitzer put up a good effort in the first half and earned five goals in the first and second quarters. CBU struck first, but Mei Espinosa replied with a goal with 6:19 left on the clock. Zeigler followed and netted one with 2:11 left on the clock to bring the Sagehens ahead 2-1. However, the Lancers continued to break past the Pomona-Pitzer defenses and reclaimed the lead. The Sagehens concluded their first period trailing behind CBU 3-2. Magna started the scoring in the second quarter by earning two goals with 5:40 and 4:09 left on the clock to bring Pomona-Pitzer ahead 4-3. Sullivan Wu followed suit and found the back of the net with 2:14 left on the clock. While the Lancers managed to earn a few more goals, the Sagehens entered halftime tied 5-5.
Zeigler started the scoring in the second half by netting a goal with 6:01 left on the clock. Hugar then secured a goal with 4:37 left on the clock to buttress the Pomona-Pitzer lead. While CBU continued breaking through the Pomona-Pitzer defenses to catch up, Magna earned a goal with 1:51 left on the clock. The Sagehens kept their lead and entered the final period ahead 8-7.
Zeigler started the scoring in the fourth quarter and netted a goal on a power play with 6:22 left on the clock. Both teams traded scoring and while the Lancers attempted to find their heading, a goal from Bowns with 2:39 left on the clock kept Pomona-Pitzer ahead. The Sagehens finished with 10-9 victory over CBU and earned a win in their first day of the Convergence Tournament.
