THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Sagehens' bats were on fire in both games against Cal Lutheran, powering them to wins of 11–1 in game one and 9–4 in game two.
Season Impact: With the wins, the Sagehens record is now to 9–13 overall and 3–2 in SCIAC play.
Game One
Sagehens 11, CLU 1
The Sagehens mercy-ruled Cal Lutheran in six innings with a strong offensive performance, scoring 11 runs on 13 hits. Claire Sefkow led the charge with a three-RBI day, highlighted by a home run, while Audrey Reimers added two RBIs on a multi-hit performance. Kylie Liu was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two doubles, two walks, two runs scored, and an RBI. Yuri Song reached base multiple times, scored twice, and added a double and a stolen base, while Natalie Murguia contributed two RBIs and reached base twice. Gianna Phillips also had a strong outing with two hits and two runs scored. Audrey Reimers earned the win for the Sagehens, pitching all six innings while allowing six hits and one run. She added two strikeouts to secure the victory. The Regals struck first in the third inning, taking advantage of an error to plate an unearned run and grab a 1–0 lead. The Sagehens responded in a big way in the fifth inning, erupting for seven runs on seven hits. Huryn tied the game with an RBI single before Murguia delivered a two-RBI knock to give the Sagehens the lead. Reimers added an RBI single, and Sefkow capped the inning with a two-run home run to extend the advantage to 7–1. The Sagehens kept the momentum rolling in the sixth inning, adding four more runs. Liu drove in a run with a double, Reimers followed with another RBI single, and Sefkow added to her big day with an RBI hit as the Sagehens pushed the lead to 11–1. From there, the Sagehens controlled the game the rest of the way, holding Cal Lutheran scoreless over the final innings to secure the mercy-rule 11–1 victory.
Game Two
Sagehens 9, CLU 4
The Sagehens powered their way to nine runs on 16 hits. Sadie Huryn led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 day, adding a walk, two stolen bases, and two runs scored. Claire Sefkow and Gianna Phillips each recorded three hits, with Sefkow driving in two runs and Phillips adding an RBI and a double. Natalie Murguia contributed two RBIs, while Sophia Roberts and Ava Bautista each added multi-hit efforts, with Bautista collecting three hits including a triple and an RBI. Bautista also got it done in the circle picking up the win pitching all seven innings and striking out two.
The Sagehens struck first in the opening inning, loading the bases before Murguia delivered a sacrifice fly and Claire Sefkow followed with an RBI single to take a 2–0 lead. Cal Lutheran answered with an unearned run in the bottom half and later tied the game in the third on an RBI single to make it 2–2. The Sagehens responded in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to regain control. Murguia drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single, Phillips added another RBI knock, and Sefkow capped the rally with an RBI double to extend the lead to 5–2. The Sagehens added to their advantage in the fifth, as Bautista tripled and later scored on a fielder's choice to push the lead to 6–2. The momentum continued into the sixth inning, where the Sagehens plated three more runs. Roberts and Bautista each recorded RBI singles, and Sadie Huryn added an RBI hit to stretch the lead to 9–2. Cal Lutheran scored once in the sixth and once in the seventh, but the Sagehens maintained control down the stretch, securing a 9–4 victory.
