Softball Drops First Game Of The Series To Cal Lutheran, 2-4

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Sagehens fell short to Cal Lutheran with final score of a 2-4.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens record is now to 7–14 overall and 1–3 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens finished with two runs on eight hits, with Natalie Murguia and Ava Bautista leading the way each going 2-for-3. Murguia also drove in a run, and Audrey Reimers drove in the other run. Nyla Springer started the game for the Sagehens, pitching four innings with two strikeouts. Mia Lopez closed the game pitching three innings and striking out one.

Cal Lutheran struck first in the opening inning, taking advantage of an error before delivering an RBI single to give the Regals a 1–0 lead. The Sagehens answered immediately in the bottom half, as Sadie Huryn scored on an RBI groundout by Natalie Murguia to tie the game at 1–1. The Regals regained the lead in the third inning with an RBI single, making it 2–1. The Sagehens responded again in the fourth, using three hits to even the score as Audrey Reimers drove in the tying run to make it 2–2. Cal Lutheran broke the tie in the fifth inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and execution to score two runs on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 4–2. Pomona-Pitzer was unable to generate another rally down the stretch, as the Regals held the Sagehens scoreless over the final three innings to secure the 4–2 victory.

Up Next: The Sagehens will take on Cal Lutheran again for a double-header on the road. The games will be on Saturday March 22 at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
