CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team split the day with a 10-5 victory over California Lutheran and a 5-18 loss to Harvard on Wednesday evening.
Season Impact: With the win and the loss, the Sagehens continue their season 12-15 overall and 6-0 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer 10, California Lutheran 5
The Sagehens were led by
Ayva Magna and
Sydney Bowns, who each netted two goals for the win.

Bella McGowan also contributed to the scoring and each secured one goal.
Pomona-Pitzer put up a strong effort to start off the match and earned five goals in the first half, three in the first and two in the second quarter. Magna started scoring for the match and earned a early goal in the first quarter with 6:58 left on the clock. Cal Lutheran managed to break past the Sagehen defenses. However, Szymczak and Lewis picked up goals with 2:11 and 1:36 left in the period to put Pomona-Pitzer ahead 3-1 as the first quarter ended. Both sides created assorted opportunities to add to their scoring, but neither side was able to convert at the beginning of the second quarter. The Regals found a goal in the last minutes of the period, but Bowns netted one with 1:12 left on the clock to keep the Sagehen lead. Magna soon followed with a last-second goal with 0:09 left in the quarter to push Pomona-Pitzer farther ahead 5-2 as halftime started.
The Sagehens continued playing well through the second half and collected five more goals through the third and fourth quarters. Amberger started the scoring in the third quarter and earned an early penalty goal with 7:07 left in the period. While Cal Lutheran also managed to pick up a peanut goal, Gurney netted a buzzer-beating goal with 0:00 left on the clock to keep Pomona-Pitzer ahead. The Sagehens entered the final quarter still ahead of the Regals 7-3.
McGowan started the scoring in the final quarter and earned a penalty goal with 4:42 left in the period. The scoring then traded between both teams. Bowns picked up a goal with 3:30 left on the clock to bring Pomona-Pitzer to a 9-4 lead. While the Regals kept trying to catch up, Kerber beat the opposing goalie and netted a last-minute goal with 0:36 left in the match. The Sagehens put up a competitive effort throughout the match and defeated Cal Lutheran 10-5.

Brienz Lang who each added to the scoring and picked up one goal.
Pomona-Pitzer played well and secured four goals in the first half, scoring three in the first and one in the second quarter. Magna started the scoring in the match and netted an early goal with 7:36 left in the first period. Lang then scored a goal at the 7:03 mark, and Sullivan Wu followed by earning one during a player advantage at the 5:16 mark. Harvard swiftly tied the score after picking up three goals through the end of the first period. The Sagehens got on the board early but closed out the first quarter tied 3-3. The Crimsons struck first in the second period, but Hugar soon found a goal from a power play with 5:43 left in the period. However, Harvard continued to break past the Pomona-Pitzer defenses and found three more goals. As the Crimsons stole the lead, the Sagehens entered halftime down 7-4.
Pomona-Pitzer attempted to catch up with Harvard in the third quarter and found several opportunities to score, but they were stopped by the opposing defenses and unable to covert. The Crimsons continued to break through the Sagehen defense and widened the scoring gap with five more goals. Despite their best efforts, Pomona-Pitzer entered the final period behind Harvard 12-4.
The Crimsons continued to overwhelm the Sagehens in the fourth quarter and picked up six more goals. Amberger picked up a goal from a power play with 6:18 left in the period, but the Pomona-Pitzer endeavors made little progress. The Sagehens ended the challenging match with a 18-5 defeat to Harvard.
