SALEM, OR — Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse earned a shutout 22-0 victory over Willamette University Tuesday on the road.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens remain undefeated at 8–0 overall and 5–0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens had 16 different players in the scoring column for the match. They were led by Maria Favret, who recorded a hat trick. Catherine Faucette, Madelyn Katz, Carly Katzman, and Piper Higgins each scored two. Gwynn Sullivan, Madeleine Trapp, Birdie Hawkins, Grace Tighe, ZZ Sayeed, Ruby Gibbs, Miahue Miranda Wiltberger, Nora Leblanc, Caili Cross, Audrey Jacklyn, and River Buechner each contributed a goal in the victory.
Pomona- Pitzer earned sixteen goals in the first half – eight in each the first and second quarter. Higgins earned an early goal from a free position shot and put the Sagehens on the board with 13:59 left in the first quarter. Sullivan, Leblanc and Favret then followed with more goals with 13:11, 12:47, and 11:17 left in the quarter, respectively, to bring Pomona-Pitzer to the lead 4-0. Higgins earned another position goal with 8:50 left on the clock and Trapp then got one more for the Sagehens with 6:04 left in the period. Gibbs widened the lead and secured one with a player-advantage with 1:10 left on the clock. Favret closed out the first period by earning a last-second goal with 0:02 left in the period. Pomona-Pitzer closed out the first quarter with an 8-0 lead.
Hawkins widened the lead and earned a goal during a player advantage with 11:52 remaining, and Katz then collected one at the 11:03 mark to put Pomona-Pitzer ahead 10-0. Katzman, Favret, and Jacklyn helped cement the Sagehens lead and earned goals with a player advantage at the 9:01, 7:39, and 5:55 marks, respectively. Faucette and Katzman then picked up goals at the 5:09 and 2:28 marks to put Pomona-Pitzer further ahead 15-0. Faucette earned one more for the Sagehens with a last-minute goal with 0:15 left in the second quarter. Pomona-Pitzer entered halftime with the lead, 16-0.
The Sagehens earned six more goals through the end of the match – five in the third and one in the fourth quarter. Sayeed contributed to the Pomona-Pitzer lead and earned a goal with 12:39 left in the third quarter. Jacklyn then picked up one at the 10:04 mark, and Buechner followed by burying one in the net t the 6:09 mark. Cross helped widen the lead and earned a goal at the 4:34 mark, putting Pomona-Pitzer ahead 20-0. Katz followed by finding one at the 1:07 mark. The Sagehens kept their lead over Willamette and entered the final quarter leading 21-0.
Miranda Wiltberger struck first and found an early goal with 13:57 left in the final quarter. While the Sagehens attempted to further their lead and the Bearcats tried to catch up, both sides were met with a series of green cards and turnovers that left neither team able to convert. Still, Pomona-Pitzer stayed ahead and secured their 22-0 victory over Willamette.
