REDLANDS, CA. – The Sagehens fell in extra innings to No. 10 Redlands with final score of a 3-2 in a non-conference matchup.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens record is now to 5–13 overall and 1–2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens finished with two runs on ten hits, with multiple players contributing at the plate. Yuri Song, Sadie Huryn, and Claire Sefkow each recorded two hits, while Kylie Liu added a solo home run. Natalie Murguia also drove in a run, and Audrey Reimers and Sophia Roberts chipped in with a hit apiece. Nyla Springer pitched the whole game for the Sagehens, pitching 7.1 innings with one strikeout and only four hits allowed.
Redlands struck first in the second inning, using a sacrifice fly to take a 1–0 lead. The Sagehens answered in the fourth inning when Liu launched a solo home run to even the score at 1–1. The Sagehens threatened multiple times, including a three-hit fifth inning, but was unable to capitalize and break the tie. The game remained deadlocked until the eighth inning, when the Sagehens took advantage of the international tiebreaker. After Huryn was placed on second, Murguia delivered an RBI double to give Pomona-Pitzer a 2–1 lead. Redlands responded in the bottom half of the inning. After advancing the placed runner to third with a sacrifice bunt, an RBI single tied the game before a Sagehen error allowed the go-ahead run to score. Redlands completed the comeback to secure the 3–2 extra-inning victory.
