Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Vs Hamline

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Sagehens won both games against Hamline University with final score of a 9-6 in game one and 9-1 (5 inn.) in game two.

Season Impact: With the wins, the Sagehens record is now to 5–12 overall and 1–2 in SCIAC play.

Game One
Sagehens 9, HU 6

The Sagehens tallied nine runs on 15 hits, led by Natalie Murguia finishing 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Yuri Song went 3-for-4 at the plate and Marie Milton drove in a game-high three RBIs on two hits, while Kylie Liu added two hits and an RBI. Claire Sefkow contributed a hit, an RBI, and scored two runs, while Sadie Huryn and Audrey Reimers each crossed the plate twice, with Reimers also driving in a run. Ava Bautista and Summer Gibson each added a hit as the Sagehens spread production throughout the lineup. Bautista started in the circle for the Sagehens, pitching 4.2 innings with two strikeouts. Nyla Springer provided strong relief, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out one to help close out the game for the Sagehens.

Hamline struck first with a big third inning. After a wild pitch brought home the first run, a two-RBI double and an RBI single gave Hamline a 4–0 lead. The Sagehens responded in the fourth inning. Huryn doubled to start the rally before Liu drove her in with an RBI single. Murguia followed with an RBI double and Milton added a run-scoring groundout to cut the deficit to 4–3. Hamline added two more runs in the fifth inning, capitalizing on an error and a fielder's choice RBI to extend the lead to 6–3. The Sagehens answered with a massive rally in the bottom half of the inning. The Sagehens strung together seven hits, highlighted by RBI singles from Reimers, Sefkow, and Murguia, along with a two-RBI single from Milton and an RBI sacrifice fly from Bautista. The six-run frame gave Pomona-Pitzer a 9–6 lead, which they held the rest of the way to secure the comeback victory.

Game Two
Sagehens 9, HU 1


Claire Sefkow led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Audrey Reimers added a two-RBI hit and scored a run. Sophia Roberts contributed a hit, two RBIs, and a run, and Kylie Liu drove in a run with a hit. Natalie Murguia and Ava Bautista each recorded a hit and an RBI, while Yuri Song and Marie Milton both added hits and scored. The Sagehens were efficient offensively, scoring nine runs on nine hits with just one walk and no strikeouts. Nyla Springer earned the win for the Sagehens, pitching 3.1 innings. Mia Lopez provided solid relief, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit to help secure the victory for the Sagehens.

The Sagehens broke the game open with a massive second inning, scoring nine runs on nine hits to take control early. After Sefkow doubled to start the rally, Murguia drove her in with an RBI single. Roberts followed with a two-RBI double, and Bautista added an RBI single to extend the lead. Liu later delivered an RBI single before Reimers drove in two more runs with a single, and Sefkow capped the inning with a two-RBI double to give the Sagehens a 9–0 advantage. Hamline got on the board in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly making the score 9–1. The Sagehens' pitching staff limited further damage the rest of the way, allowing Pomona-Pitzer to hold on for the 9–1 mercy-rule victory.
