Softball Drops Both Games Against PLU

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Sagehens dropped both games against Pacific Lutheran University with final score of a 2-6 in game one and 4-8 in game two.

Season Impact: With the losses, the Sagehens record is now to 3–12 overall and 1–2 in SCIAC play.

Game One
Sagehens 2, PLU 6

Pomona-Pitzer recorded seven hits in the game, led by Natalie Murguia, who went 2-for-3 at the plate while Kylie Liu hit a solo home run. Yuri Song, Sadie Huryn, Gianna Phillips, and Claire Sefkow also each added a hit for the Sagehens. Audrey Reimers started in the circle, throwing 4.2 innings and striking out three batters. Mia Lopez came to pitch 2.1 innings, striking out one. The Sagehens struck first in the opening inning. Song singled to right field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Huryn before Phillips reached on a fielding error that allowed Song to score and give Pomona-Pitzer an early 1–0 lead. Pacific Lutheran answered in the third inning to tie the game at 1–1. The Sagehens quickly regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning as Liu launched a solo home run to make it 2–1. The Lutes responded with a big fifth inning. After tying the game on a wild pitch and scoring four runs in the frame to take a 5–2 lead. Pacific Lutheran added one more run in the sixth inning on an RBI double, extending the advantage to 6–2 and securing the victory.

Game Two
Sagehens 2, PLU 7

The Sagehens recorded 15 hits in the game, led by Yuri Song, who went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Natalie Murguia added three hits and an RBI, while Kylie Liu and Audrey Reimers each collected two hits and drove in a run. Claire Sefkow also contributed two hits and scored a run, while Marie Milton added a hit and crossed the plate once for the Sagehens. Nyla Springer started in the circle throwing all 7 innings or the Sagehens, striking out three batters. Pacific Lutheran struck first in the opening inning to take a 1–0 lead. The Sagehens responded in the bottom half as Song singled to start the inning and later scored on an RBI single from Liu to even the game at 1–1. The Lutes broke the game open in the second inning. After an error allowed a run to score, PLU launched a three-run home run to give Pacific Lutheran a 5–1 advantage. Pomona-Pitzer answered in the bottom of the inning when Song delivered an RBI single that brought home Murguia and cut the deficit to 5–2. Pacific Lutheran extended its lead in the third inning with a three-run frame to make it 8–2. The Sagehens chipped away with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, as Song drove in Sefkow with an RBI single before Murguia later added an RBI single to score Milton. The Sagehens continued to threaten late, recording multiple hits in the final innings, but the comeback fell short as Pacific Lutheran secured the 8–4 win.
